Questions

I wonder if we will add activities with children, like going to the zoo, or the park and the more you do the more points you get and say anywhere between 5 and 10 points for each activity. I have been finding it difficult to exercise this week, as I have had nausea and heartburn, so therefore haven't lost any weight. I was just contemplating the idea of having points for taking the girls out and knowing there isn't really a line on the spreadsheet to put the activity, so I really haven't taken them out and they are raring to go and do something.

Any thoughts?

I agree that it is hard to know how many miles you did without a pedometer. Maybe having a choice between time-based or distance-based rewards for that one row in the spreadsheet would make sense. For example, should walking for an hour at the zoo count for 10 points (roughly 2.5 miles)?

I think that's a perfect example of something you should present to the family with a suggested point amount.

For example, if you take the girls to the zoo and do a lot of walking, tell us all what you did and how many points you think you should get for it. Then the other players can either say, "Sounds great!" or "That's too many points, in my opinion," or "I'd even let you have more points for that."

Of course, the spreadsheet can't have a line for everything, but we want people to get points for things that help get them healthy!

That's not really exercise. If you count the distance at the zoo then do you count the steps you take at work or the store or at home? I think the point of this whole ordeal is to go out the door with the intent of getting into better shape. Don't worry, nausea for one week won't derail the whole summer.

I think a key question in deciding is: does it fit under one of the four categories on the spreadsheet (physical, weight/size, food/nutrition, blog/encouragement)? Going to the park or zoo to me doesn't seem to fit in those categories unless you are exercising (biking, running, etc) in order to get there, and thus it would be in the physical category.

Plus, you can take the girls out and do something without it falling in a category for points. Not everything we do day to day will give us points, obviously.
