This morning's workout (a 2 1/4 mile walk for me, scooter/bikes for Josh and Tyler, Sarah in the stroller) was pure torture. And it had nothing to do with the exercise and everything to do with the kids.
The following are all comments that I heard while on this walk:
"I can't!"
"Can we switch yet?"
"I can't!"
"My knees hurt."
"Can we have a water break?"
"I can't!"
"I HATE solids. They hurt me. Why can't everything be made of liquid?"
"Can we have a water break?"
"There's a hill!! I can't go up a hill!"
"I'll just walk the bike."
"I can't!"
"Can we switch yet?"
"I'll fall over!!"
"Slow down!"
"We have to go THAT far?"
"I can't!"
"Can we have a water break?"
"How come he gets to ride the scooter more than me?"
"Stupid bike."
"It's hot."
"How come we have to take a stupid walk?"
"I'm never going on a walk again."
"I can't"
And that doesn't even reflect all the tears shed, some by each boy, while on this walk.
You may wonder why the walks? Well, we haven't lived here long enough for our finances to stable out yet and therefore I don't want to commit to a gym membership if we can't afford it. So, exercise means thing at home in our really small living room with three kids in here with me, walking on the trail (and only in the morning before it gets too hot), or relying on the generosity of my in-laws for their invitations to their private neighborhood pool.
So, we walk. But just so you all know, the are torturous walks.
And, FYI, since this isn't exactly an encouraging post, I'm not even counting it towards points this week. I'm just venting. You should all be so grateful that you don't have to drag 3 kids along with you EVERYWHERE you go.

Lisa, I'm sorry that it's frustrating. But know that not only are you getting healthier yourself, but you are also teaching your kids to be healthy - whether they want to or not! Keep trying - I hope it gets easier! Love you!
Lisa, is there somewhere close enough that you could walk "to" so that the walk wouldn't be so torturous for the children? A museum, park, even McDonalds if you buy them a cone, and skip out on the cone yourself? Something that would make the end result of the walk fun!
nope, mom. nothing that close. We live in the boonies. Also, I would never get up early to do it. I like to sleep too much. i'd rather drag my kids then get up early.
